Snoring Statistical Risk Data

  • Male gender
  • Middle to older age
  • Excess weight
  • Use of alcohol, muscle relaxants, and sedatives (sleeping pills)
  • Nasal congestion
  • Smoking (especially in men)
  • A deviated (crooked) septum (bony partition between the nostrils)
  • Large tonsils and adenoids
  • Family members who snore

Snoring has also been shown to increase in some women during pregnancy.
